On offer is a sensational, massive 200+ page 1898 -1904 manuscript and scrapbook handwritten, created, collected and compiled by Gertrude L. Champion who began this time capsule on paper when she attended Smith College as freshman in 1898 and obviously lived the campus and college life to the extreme. A cornucopia of items related to her time at all female college until she gradated. As local historians will gather life at Smith is inextricably tied to Amherst which is well presented in the scrapbook and also Dartmouth University. The scrapbook is 9 inches thick, weighs 12 pounds and measures 12 x 9.5 inches absolutely filled with ephemera. Ms. Champion annotated the pages with handwritten notes explaining the many, many items she included: handwritten poetry, anecdotes about friends, proms and dances and college life in general. There are about 45 letters, 30 or so invitations in envelopes and even some from friends in Europe. Some items of note are Gertrude's first class schedule with handwritten notations handwritten signs from her room, a newspaper article of Ms. Champion's marriage to Mr. George Lord Fuller, a piece of wallpaper from her room. Other items are music programs, tickets, pages of calling cards, schedules for class at Smith college, dried flowers, invitations from Greek organizations, cloth napkins decorations , telegraphs, menus, cloth masks, cloth napkins bows, a paper flag+++. Paper is very fragile but for the most part intact though some pages have tears but overall Fair+.
